How do you store yours ?

Postby Whiskytaster » Wed Jul 08, 2009 10:04 pm

As the collection grows, I am interested to know how other collectors store their bottles.

The stock option appears to be cabinets from Ikea...

Anyone use anything else?

I keep my bottles in a cabinet in the kitchen. It's always pretty cool in my kitchen and the doors of the cabinet don't have glass windows so the sun can't get to it. I do have a large cupboard with huge glass doors in my living room where I might be able to store them but I'm not very keen on doing so. That way everybody can see what I've got in my collection and there are always some people with bad intentions. Plus I don't collect whisky to brag.

I built my own liquor cabinet. It is a triangular «box» with two doors and a fixed back, all in maple wood. The top is a piece of thick glass - also triangular - which rests on three wooden stilts placed on top of the box, giving the impression that the glass is floating. The whole cabinet is nicer than my description! It will hold 10 or 11 bottles and it also serves as a table for an antique telephone. I only keep whisky in this cabinet; other liquor goes into another cabinet I made, that one imitating a Shaker wardrobe.

Ikea is a good place to find cabinets. Another possible source would be antique stores or thrift shops.

I have one old wooden cabinet in the whisky room which accomodates around 100 bottles. Most of the rest is packed in boxes and stashed all over the house, while other bottles are just lying around on the floor. It's bloody dangerous really.

The cupboard under the stairs is completely given over to whisky (and other alcohol) storage in my house. No cabinet, just lots of shelves

Heh! There's me thinking I'd be the only one to store my bottles in a wardrobe... seems it's common practise :P
