1979 whisky

Postby MacPete » Mon Jul 27, 2009 8:38 pm

Hi all

I'm looking for a 1979 bottle of whisky as a birthday gift. I thought I had found what I was looking for here but unfortunately it's sold out :( (I called Binnys). I'm in a bit of a hurry (as the birthday is on friday) and need to find a US online shop that will ship the gift to New Jersey.

I'm looking for something a little heavy (maybe something a bit sherried) and some peat would be welcome. I'm trying to stick to a price point not too far beyond $100.

Any suggestions?

Vintage for sure. Doesn't need to be 30 years old.

I think Balblair have a 1979 out in their current range if you can find one.

Go to Whiskey Exchange if your struggling and I'm sure they'll have something and they also ship to Europe.

Peter, unfortunately your price point is going to cause you some problems... there's not a lot left on US shelves that's going to be 1979 vintage and around $100... at least that's available from online retailers. Plus shipping... which is especially going to be expensive if you ship to New Jersey from the UK. But if you want to pay the shipping, you can ship from The Whisky Exchange (or similar) to NJ.

Note that many places that specify a "lead time" needed on a product often just can't get it (usually because there simply isn't any left for them to get).

I think you either need to find an inexpensive 30-year (if you can go for age instead of vintage... and don't mind the whisky quality being in question) or increase your budget.
