Old Elgin-46 year-old Highland Single Malt, Distilled 1938

My brother-in-law gave me a bottle of Old Elgin-46 year-old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Distilled 1938. The Dram Taker's. Adapted from the book of Kells circa 700AD. Gordon & MacPhail, Elgin. Single malt, 75cl, 40% volume.

He bought it in Elgin in 1984 and has had it in his cellar ever since. Knowing that I'm a lover of single malts, he gave me the bottle for Christmas.

Question: do I open it or 'collect' it?

oh and post a pic if you get a chance - would like to see it .. I have a couple book of the kells bottles.

It is worth some cash - but as a gift - enjoy.

Old Elgin - should = Glen Moray

Longmorn and Benriach are there as well... but they are closer to New Elgin (south) - so I would put Old Elgin at Moray... would not be worth that much money - but should be a really good dram..

I agree that it is probably a lovely dram to drink...however, it is a beautiful old bottle and may fetch a strong price on the market - only one way to find out...
