Strathspey?

Postby Andko » Fri Jun 18, 2004 12:20 am

I have seen in a store a couple of shaggy looking boxes from a malt called strathspey highland malt -not pride of strathspey, not in the box anyway- . At the moment the bottles are unreachable- top shelf in 5 meter high ceiling -. The owner is restoring the shop and you can see, but not touch. Anyway the box pictures a shepherd herding some sheep. Any idea which whisky is this?

I did a search on google and the only thing that came up was a trophy in that name at the MOD and some references to it from old meeting minutes etc. One fellow had it listed in his collection of labels. I would guess, based on a limited search so I may be proved wrong, that it is an older bottling that is no longer offered. However there may be a chance that it is actually Gordon & Macphails Strathspey vatted malt.

I think we used to get a bottle here in Australia called "Strathspey". It came in a green-ish carton? It was basically a supermarket bottling.

From memory it was a young malt (5 years old), but I can't remember if it was a single or vatted.

I last saw it about six months ago, so it isn't all that old.

I'll look into it for you and report back.

Cheers,

apologies in ressurecting an old thread, but has there been any further info on this bottle? Admiral, have you engaged in any empirical research since?

based on the price, i'm naturally curious. however, based on the price, i'm also highly sceptical. makes sense huh?

From what I can find Strathspey = Original name of Dalwhinnie.

Might be an IB from the distillery.

hey, andko,

Saw the strathspey, at a large bottle shop in Australia today, I only noticed it because of your post. It looks like cheap crap up close.
On special for au $29.99

Label and cap are a greeny blue, with gold type
has a very scotish looking coastal picture below the name stathspey

Bottle details....

Strathspey

Pure Malt ( so i assume its a vatted malt)

back of bottle says something about aged in quality oak barrels for 5 years blahh blah ......
imported into Australia by James Bushby and sons.

Well done Admiral, good memory

I wasnt temped to buy a bottle

Hope this helps

Cheers
