I have a bottle of Bowmore ceramic, seal intact, never been opened in mint condition, however I dont have the box.
Anyone have any idea how much this is worth (boxed normally costs £190 per bottle)
Cheers
Malty
The empty bottles and box turn up on ebay quite frequently and can sell for about US$75 so I would imagine you could get a price quite close to the £190 if you were to auction it.
Actually - we have been finding a few of the 30 year old ceramic bottles (and the 25's as well) in Alberta, Canada. (The place to buy whisky in Canada.)
Last few 30's purchased just a couple of months ago were a mere $220 ~ $240 Cdn. for the 30 year old. The 25 can be found for $219... Box and all...
If you can enjoy it and still e-bay off the empty shell for $75 US (>$90 Cdn.) well that should encourage some recycling, eh!!!
There was one lonely 30yo ceramic Bowmore in a single shop in Sydney. It sat on the shelves for AUS$500 for two years or so, and then one day it was gone. $500 seemed a bit much for a 30yo, given that - at the time - 30yo Macallan was about $320 and 30yo Glenfarclas similarly priced.
Remember that the ebay buyer is usually a person who does not have access to a particular bottling through normal channels and is quite willing to pay a significant premium for something 'sparkly' and that has been my selling experience. However it is a very nice whisky and you might consider opening it New Year's Eve but if you're at a party hide it as somebody might pour the whole bottle into the punch.
