I collect only Irish bottles and have over 160 in my collection which I am not drinking. I have tasted the majority of them and will no doubt drink some but others are purely for investment as their value far exceeds their taste.
Worse still I have way too many bottles open at the moment to even put a dent in the Irish collection and I am buying all the time but here is the drinking list. The Irish bottles with the astrix are bottles I always like to replace.

Hi everyone,
I'm a bit of a newbie to this site but not to collecting whisky.
I have collected for just over 10 years now and currently have 331 bottles.
Rather than list them here, they may all be seen on my personal website (covering My Whisky, My Photography and other snippets of "Art").
Feel free to look in:

Welcome Whiskey Hammer. Had a quick look at your site and must say very impressive. Excellent the way all you bottles can be viewed. I love the mile stone bottles, quite novel. Wonderful and thanks for sharing.

Regards Adrian.

Hi irishWhiskyChaser,
many thanks for your kind words.
my collection has been something of a passion for the last 3-4 years, before that it was just coming along steadily. I think I say that around 150 bottles were added over those last 3 years or so.

Originally, maybe like most people, I started to save one bottle of each that I came across and liked. Therefore, some of my earlier ones are of more sentimental than monetary value.
However, I am aware that some of these are now discontinued packaging and labels, therefore are indeed growing slightly in value.

At the moment my collection is somewhat on hold as I am literally just starting my own whisky business and all my money is heading in that direction.

Anyway, once again thanks and feel free to look in anytime and enjoy the collection (and maybe even the photography!)

Hi WhiskyHammer

Good collection - nice website.

Tell me, are you collecting with the intent to eventually drink them - or purely for their value as collectors items ? (Sorry if your site explains this - just had a quick look for now.)

Cheers

My inventory has seen quite a lot of action, since I originally posted my inventory so I thought would repost...

One of the major shifts has been on my absolute upper limit I would be willing to pay for a bottle... A year or so ago I thought Lagavulin 16, Ardbeg 17 (old prices) to be luxury bottles for me and could not imagine ever paying more for a bottle of whisky. Since then I have raised that quite a lot and I now think about four times that, to be my upper, absolute limit. (Not that I can really afford to spend that much very often, but in principle this would be the limit.)

Strange how "the bug" alters ones perception

Any way, here goes:

Open:

2x Peat pack - Ardbegs 10, 17yo, Uigedail & Kildalton 5cl

Scapa 12y

* I have recently started the practice of re-bottling the last of a bottle in 10cl sample bottles. This partly to slow down oxydation, partly to save space in my overstuffed cupboard. (Right now I have re-bottled 2x 10cl scapa & 1x 10 cl lagavulin)

Cheers

Hi Jan,
over the years as the collection has grown, so has my intention.
otiginally I envisaged drinking them some day, but now I see the investment potential I tend to buy and collect with this in mind.

I fondly refer to the collection as my "Whisky pension" or in German "Whisky Rente" which sounds great and amuses the Germans.

However, when I win the lottery ............ :D

Here's an update on my inventory. Some bottles has been emptied and some new purchases are added:

Still trying hard to live up to my "motto" in the signature, but it's a bit hard. Especially when I discovered a few bottles distilled in my birth year (1956). At the same time the two Gordon & MacPhaill's Glen Grant's were reasonably priced so I just couldn't pass - could I

@ Lawrence
Yes, i like Caol Ila. Since i bought a bottle of Caol Ila Bloodtub Valinch sherry cask Islay Festival Bottling from Murray McDavid last year at Bruichladdich (MMD Headquarter) i like to get all sherry cask bottlings of Caol Ila. This Bloodtub was one of the best malts i ever had tried. Unfortunately my bottle is empty now, and no chance to get another one of that less than 80 bottles. Only 40 litres of that phantastic stuff had been in the bloodtub cask at MMD, and some of its content had been given as samples to the visitors at bruichladdich, to buy the bottles. I just hope, that the boys of MMD got more of that stuff, and sometimes will make another equal bottling. I just heard, that Caol Ila will become one of the new classic malt range from DIAGEO and in autumn there will be a new release of a Caol Ila 1993 distillers edition. Perhaps a sherry finish! I hope so!

@ Jan
I will make some notes from the ardbeg sherry hogshead next weekend, when we will make our monthly private tasting. I just had tried a sip of the 58,8% and its a nice, but hard stuff. At Limburg i tried the 58,6% and it was very good, but because i had got another 11 drams before, i couldnt make any notes of it, only that it taste very well.
If you like we can exchange some samples, if you got some interesting open bottles.

Cheers

Hi Kiltrock

I kinda doubt I have much, you would be interested in open at the moment - you seem pretty much well-stocked...

Can I take a raincheck, when I next open something interesting ?

(Have you tasted the Dun Beaghan Caol Ila 12yo? Not sherry matured, but quite good I think…)

Cheers

Hi Jan,

no, i havent tried this Dun Bheaghan Caol Ila 12y yet. I just had some 36 different Caol Ila bottlings, but this not. I m not only drinking sherry cask/finish bottlings, but i prefer them rather than normal/bourbon cask bottlings. The Blackadder Smoking Islay is a very good single cask bottling of a bourbon cask matured Caol Ila, nice peat bomb!

Just got a miniature of the Caol Ila GM Centenary Reserve 1966-95 29y sherry cask, supposed as the best Caol Ila ever had bottled. I will taste it this saturday on our monthly private tasting and will find out, whether that is true or not.

If you got not enough interesting bottles for exchange, you can buy some samles of mine if you like to. Just give me your email address and i will send you a price list for samples of 4 or 5 cl. Its the price of purchase divided through the quantity of cl. But i dont know the shipping cost to denmark, it will depend on how many samples you like to get.

Thanks Lowerence. I thought I had a very big collection, judging by how much space it takes up in our house, but it looks quite small when I type it out. I suppose I do have duplicates of many of these, which gives it more volume.

Kiltrock, thank you for the offer. I would prefer to swap though. How about if I get back to you, when I open the Caol Ila, and we'll see then, if there is basis for swapping ?

Hello all!
Glad I find this forum. It's nice to read other people's thoughts of whisky. Provides a lot of information too! I'm afraid my collection is quite poor compared to others. Heh. I'm still just a student though, so one must be careful when spending money. Thing that usually never happens considering whisky purchases

Hi SeBBe and welcome from me too.

Apart from the Scapa 14y which I personally find rather weak and watery, I agree that you have some nice drinkable drams there.

You find the Scapa 14 weak and watery? How odd, those are not the words I would have used but there you go, everybody finds different things in whisky.

Hi Lawrence,
after many recommendations from whisky-loving friends I tried the Scapa 14 just before last Christmas. It was supposed to be one of my "Christmas treats" to myself.

I was totally disappointed.
Maybe I expected too much after all the build up?
I found it had no greatly dinstinctive flavours to set it apart. It was slightly oily - which I likein a malt. But otherwise, I found it very lacking.

I am loathe to describe it as insipid, but it was certainly very watery and something that I do not wish to re-visit in the near future.

As far as Orkney is concerned, I will stand by HP which I have always found to be a decent dram and without disappointment.

Thank you guys! I already feel welcomed. :D

I do like peated malts very much. Nevertheless, I always try to taste as many malts at different regions as possible.

At first I also find Scapa too light and somehow "strange". After a few dram however it got a lot better. Currently I find Scapa very enjoyable, although when Orkney is concerned I also prefer HP.

Think I'm going to open Bowmore 17 now. Slainte!

Bowmore 17 is wonderful.

Re the Scappa. I think it improves f you leave a glass out for a few hours.

My reaction to the Scapa was also that it was rather weak and watery, and I found myself wishing they'd bottled at 46%, or at least 43%. But I learned to enjoy it on its own terms eventually. A nice summer dram, maybe.
