MacPhail's 1950

I was at the Scottish Lisence Trade Beneolent Ball on Saturday and was lucky enough to win a MacPhail's 1950, 36 year old in a Sutherland decanter. Now, I know nothing about whisky (I can barely tell the difference between a malt and a blend!!), can anyone here tell me a little about it?

Of course the obvious question is what's it's value but I doubt I'll be selling it. My father has a fairly extensive whisky collection so it'll make a good retirement present for him.
