seeking a 1966 whisky

Postby SongSmith » Fri Sep 22, 2006 7:25 pm

I have a friend coming over from the USA -- he was born in 1966 -- does anyone have an idea of a collectable whisky, bottled in 1966 that I can buy and give to my friend as a present.

I have only found one so far.... a Balvenie

thx in advance :)

Macallan 18 year old is another possibility if you can find one.

1966 is also one of the years that Spingbank used for the now famous "Local Barley" bottlings. But these are also quite difficult to find and can be expensive.

I did a search on http://www.binnys.com, a great store. where is what I found out. I cut and pasted it, so the format is off, but this should help some.

Records 1 to 5 of 5 1

Blackadder Banff 1966-36yr Old Raw Cask
First-fill Sherry.

750ML $89.99/btl $512.94/case Buy

Duncan Taylor Miltonduff 1966-38yr Old

750ML $149.99/btl $854.94/case Buy

Hart Brothers Bunnahabhain 1966-35yr Old

750ML $139.99/btl $797.94/case Buy

Macallan 1966-35yr Old Fine & Rare Collection

750ML $1,699.99/btl Buy

Speymalt Macallan 1966-35yr Old

750ML $399.99/btl $2,279.94/case Buy

I actaully have had a sample of the Bunnhabain, which I liked a great deal.

It's Actually a Cragganmore and it's a cracker !

Try Duncan Taylor Bottlings , they have a 1966 Bunnahabhain and Bruichladdich available and probably some others.....

If this is the '66 Balvenie your speaking of then it's a very nice one to consider.

So if that price doesn't scare you away then here are some other choices.
From the Whisky Exchange in London...

Dalwhinnie 1966 £268.09 36yo Very Special Release 47.2% 70cl

Springbank 1966 £297.02 30yo Dumpy Bottle / Bottled Nov 1996 46% 70cl

Tullibardine 1966 £195.74 To celebrate the World Cup 2006 / Cask:2132 48% 70cl

and if he's a REAL good friend.....

Glenrothes 1966 £765.11 37yo Cask 1438 / Dumpy Bottle 51.8% 70cl

Macallan 1966 £872.34 35yo Cask No: 7878 55.5% 70cl

Cheers!

Oh...I'm sorry for the mistake,
I really thought that being near Ballindalloch it was a Glenfarclas!

Any thing with 1966 is probably collectable to degree, just how much your willing to spend.

I'd go for the Limited Edition Balblair 1966 38 year old, an outstanding dram and very well presented also.
