I have to wonder about the sanity of people in whiskyauction. com's clientele - for example, there is an Ardbeg Provenance 1974 being sold there, and the price is already above 700 euros. At the same time whiskyhammer is offering the same bottling for sale - for far more reasonable price, and there are no bids.

I guess its the thrill of competing against each other..or something.

Perhaps it's more to do with people thinking that the auction bottle is the only one available currently? But there is some accuracy in what you say, once two people start a bidding war all reason seems to flee them.

some of the prices that stuff goes for on krugers sites shocks me everytime.
since you cant see whos bidding, you do sometimes think that theres maybe somthing fishy ging on with the bidding...

but with whiskyauction as opposed to whisky hammer, the first has been going for years, the second not so long and not that widely known so wont get as much traffic.
