Macallan 50 year old whisky in Lalique decanter

I would like a buyer for The Macallan 50 Year old whisky in Lalique decanter. It is complete with box book sealed and in imaculate condition. I am using this to help fund my daughter through university. I would hope it to fetch £5,000 would this be a fair price?
can anyone sugest how to sell this (not ebay)

I'd suggest one of the auction houses. Hard to know what you will get with this one.

I would suggest you contact some whisky shops. Where do live though? You ask for GBP5000 which suggests UK.

Therefore, I would suggest Sukinder from The Whisky Exchange, Wayne from Whisky-Online (Blackpool), Richard from Parkers Whisky in Banff, Gordon and MacPhail in Elgin or Keir from Royal Mile Whiskies in Edinburgh.

The only whiskyauction house worth its salt is McTears in Glasgow.

Whats the issue with ebay?

I live in Inverness Scotland therefore it should not be much if a problem to contact Gordon Mc Phail or McTears. I have tried to sell it on Ebay and it has been taken off the site. I had an offer once on ebay at the price range I am looking for but the buyer wanted me to take it to Edinburgh and leave it with their friend who would meet me there.It was then to go to America I could not manage to do this.I might try Ebay one more time.

Have you seen the prices of the Macallan Lalique series on Whiskfinder? The second edition, which is 55, is going (or rather asking...not sure if it is going) for $16,000 CAD. Parker's Whisky is asking $31,000 CAD for the first release, which was 50 y. I have 3 of the latter. I bought them for $6000 each. The return is infinitely higher than my current stocks.

I was fortunate enough to taste the 50 at a tasting event. It was very good.

I do not want to be nosey...actually, I do want to be nosey and be crass enough to ask if you might tell me how much you received for your bottle of Macallan 50 y Lalique. I would like to sell one of my bottle and am not sure what they are actually being sold for and not just what people are pricing them at.

Sorry for not answering sooner as I have not logged into the whisky magazine for some time. I sold the Macallan Lalique for £10,000. I believe it is now worth nearly double as it is extremely hard to find one now.The third edition is due out this year which should push the price up even further. A stunning collection without a doubt.

Thanks for responding to the query. I think your price is more than reasonable.

A shop owner has one for sale for 17,000 GBP. Apparently, he wants to keep the bottle so that is why the price is so high. If he wants to keep it, then why put it up for sale? He wanted to buy another one but was not willing to pay 10,000 GBP (which would leave him, potentially with a 7000 GBP profit). I am not a business person, but I thought that sounded like a reasonable profit. He did not.

Mine is still for sale but there is no hurry.

It's not as simple as that. In the UK tax is included in the final price.

Therefore the price tag of £17,000 would have to include close to £2550 in tax which goes straight to the government. Further the fact he has set the price at £17,000 so he does not sell it probably means he cannot sell it for that.

A price tag like this is more often than not for show in a shop.

He too possibly could sell a bottle for 10,000 but at current rates the tax take would be £1500 so actual price is 8,500 and next year the tax rate goes up to 17.5% so that needs to be taken into consideration incase he does not sell it till next year. He'd like to make a few quid also so don't expect anything over 7000 from a retailer.

The above seller was blessed to find someone willing to pay him close to retail prices.

I have a 50 yr Lalique that I am trying to sell. Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to sell it in the US? I am not sure I would want to use eBay.

Also, anyone have any ideas on what these are going for in private sales? I haven't been able to find any auction results to use as a guide. The above post suggests maybe $12-13k?

I usually keep an eye on Whiskyfinder.com. They provide prices offered by shops, when the product is available. Past opinions on this site suggest that one should expect to get less in a private sale.

As to how to sell, I agree with you that ebay is not the way to go. Contact whisky clubs and tasting groups in your area or around the country. Some members might be interested.

Hi Fred,

As far as I can see, there is nothing other than the bottle number. Etched on the bottom of each bottle is the number out of 470. I have bottles 85, 343 and 345.

14,583.33 GBP (ex VAT)
about 23,100 CDN

Of the bottles in the Lalique lineup to date, I still think the first one is the most beautiful. Tastes great, too. Sorry not to be able to comment on the flavour of the others.
