How many CLOSED bottles do you have?

In a special rack, and on top of the bookcases, and on top of the hi cabinet, and on top of the piano and in boxes in the bedroom and in boxes in the loft and in cupboards in my office and..... well you get the picture.

I don't have a piano, but otherwise that's pretty much how it goes.

I would settle for a wee reduction in the number of bottles. Trouble is there are always so many nice new bottlings these days. At some point it will sink in that I can't drink them all.

It is now 98, but i cheat a bit, 16 of those are 5 and 20cl (ml) bottles. After December it will be a lot less. I plan to have a lot of tasting sessions with the small bottles.

With tonight's opening of the 1.75L of White Horse I'm now officially at 0 (zero) closed bottles. Aside from the rare "special occasion" bottle or two, and short-term logistical backlogs I expect to keep it that way. My pace is slowing to 2-3 bottles / month which I should easily be able to keep current with and even that should drop off some before this time next year.

Currently have five: a cask strength Rosebank; two Port Ellens; Ardbeg 17 yo, 40%; and a hand filled non-sherried Aberlour. I've had hand-filled Aberlours in the past and tend to open them once I know I'll be heading back there and can get another. Non-sherried Aberlours are fantastic!

For the first 20 years of drinking single malts I never once thought about having any sort of 'collection' other than several back-up bottles of favorites. The only reason I have so many now is in the last 7~8 years I've slowed down considerably the drinking of (due to health reasons) but my buying of hasn't.


The answer to your query is, they're great whiskies you'll love them.
Drink them and buy more!

I also agree with the people who say Talisker 18, a classy version of the 10yo. Not as peppery but a tad saltier anda little smoother.

Where I am financially, and in terms of living situation, I never really have a closed bottle longer than a few days, and I rarely have more than a couple of bottles on hand all of which are typically opened shortly after going to the Liquor store. Although I would love to have such a collection to where I have double digits worth of closed bottles in my possession.

Indeed it is - a staple in my cupboard (and may well be joined by the 17yo of which I have just started my first full bottle)

Do you prefer the 12 or the 17yo Old Pulteney?
