Macallan 1968

Postby aclades » Mon Jan 24, 2011 10:21 am

For a special occasion I would like to get my father a nice bottle of whisky. We both like whisky, but unfortunately my knowledge of whisky is rather limited. Now I found this bottle online that is listed as 'Macallan 1968 - Speymalt'. I have been trying to get any additional information in the form of reviews online, unfortunately I have not found anything of the kind. Now insead of turning this into a, is this a good whisky topic I thought I would keep it a bit more generic by phrasing the question as follows:

In this price range £100 to £175 would this be a good choice?

My preference would be to buy a Macallan bottle, but this is mostly motivated by the fact I am most familiar with Macallan and I really enjoy the 18yr old Fine Oak.

I have had several different vintage Speymalt Macallans over the years. These have ranged from 9 yo up to 32 yo. All have been very good, rich sherry Macallans. If the 68 is anything like the 72 and 73 (30ish yos) versions I would say YES to it being worth the price.
