help me choosing next bottle

I'm a big fan of islays but recently I tried yamazaki 18 yo and I loved it and now I want to try other similar .. any one knows another whiskey to compare with the yamazakii? some that are similar in flavor, i prefer from scotland if you know someone ...

I find the Yamazaki 18 quite unique. It's certainly not just about the Sherry cask influence with this one, as there's so much more going on... Oxidative notes that remind me of older brandies, resinous notes that remind me of venerable malts along the lines of vintage Auchentoshans or perhaps even Glen Gariochs, as well as an intensely fruit component. Yet the Yamazaki is truly its own 'beast'.

As concerns other Japanese whiskies that might compare, dramtastic would doubtless be able to point you in the right direction.

Just as a 'shot in the dark', you may want to consider an older (such as the 25-year old) Highland Park? At the very least, it will be a pretty good match for the Yamazaki in terms of complexity and richness.

I agree that a Highland Park would be reasonably close, though perhaps not so rich. An older Bunnahabhain might do the trick nicely.

You liked the Yamazaki, but you want the same from Scotland. Why? Most members will tell you that there is certain uniqueness to Japanese whiskys that neither makes them better or worse than Scottish whisky, just a bit different.
So if want continue to broaden your horizens, why not try another Japanese whisky.
As Bredman said, it would help if we knew what area you are from.

hi all, thanks for the replies, I live in Madrid, Spain, is not easy to get Japanese whisky but was not the main reason for my question. I was really surprised how different it was the whisky yamakazi 18 compared with the Scotchs who had tested. After reading your comments I'll follow your advice to try more Japanese, any recommendation like "first try this and then this ..."...?

On the other hand, I've never tried a HP25 (only HP12) or any Auchentoshan ... I think it's time!! I´m going to read some of them to try to choose one of them ...

wow, great information dramtastic, i´ll follow your recomendations. First i try the japanese and HP18 (not 25 because is less accesible to me) and in a second step the auchentoshans (it seems complicate choose one, but probably y ask you again).

I'm not a specialist of Japanese whiskey, but I seem that the Bunnahabhain 18 yo islay whiskey would suit you and enjoy. Its unique taste is distinguished by mellow sherried nuts and shavings of the finest natural oak wood.
