Need help for tasting order

Postby stizzle » Sat Oct 01, 2011 7:44 pm

Hi All,
I'm new to the boards. I'm planning a tasting party where everyone attending brings a bottle of their favourite whisky and we all sample what you bring. This has provided me with quite a range of whiskies and I need some help putting them in order.

here's what I have so far:
1. Jameson 12 Special Reserve
2. Redbreast 12
3. Auchentoshen Three Wood
4. Glenfiddich 15
5. Glenrothes Select Reserve
6. Balblair 1989
7. Highland Park 18
8. Talisker 10
9. Ardbeg Corryvreckan
10. if they are really nice to me I'll let them try my Bruichladdich Octomore 1

I haven't tried some of these whiskies so any help on this would be greatly appreciated, and as you can see I have 2 Irish friends attending and I really don't know where to slot them in.

Thanks in advance.

The only things I would have switched were the Rothes and the Fiddich. The other thought is to maybe break it up a little. Pair up the Irish. Then do 3-6 together and 7-10 together.

The order isn't the problem here but I think that 10 drams are too much for one session. In my experience 6 or 7 whiskys are good but everything after that is wasted malt and money as by then you cannot get the datails anymore (unless you used a spittoon before).

Looks pretty good to me, though I might be tempted to switch the Glenrothes and Balblair around (the latter is quite delicate and might fit in better immediately after the Glenfiddich) and move the Auchentoshan (quite heavily textured owing to the wood finishing) up to before the Highland Park. Just a thought...

Hi Stizzle,
The order is fine, my only suggestion would be to break it up in two occasions, or tastings and perhaps have five drams instead of ten per tasting. Besides its double the pleasure that way... :D 8)

Always The Best....Cheers,

Grumpy...

Start with the hideous Glenrothes Select Reserve. :yuk:

After that no matter what the order it''l be all uphill.
