Kindly recommend a 40YO from the List

Hello all. Firstly what a great forum this is for whisky enthusiasts....

For my 40th birthday, my wife wants to buy me a 40yo whisky from the following selection:

Bunnahabhain 40yo 1969 (Lonach bottling)
Glennrothes 40yo 1969 (Lonach bottling)
Glenlivet 40yo 1970 (Lonach bottling)

I understand that the above drams are relatively cheap compared the "name" brands, however, I believe she wants to get it purely for the token value rather than the quality value.

Googling these whiskys don't really give much info so any help in selecting one is greatly appreciated.

I haven't tried any of these but the Glenrothes is the most intriguing to me. The Lonach bottlings have been good but not great. If you like the more fruity ones go for the Livet, Bunnies trend more towards a malty character. I tend to get a fennel or anise note with Glenrothes.

I've tried none of those, but old Glenlivets can be nice and yes, that 'rothes would be interesting.

Where are you located moy? The Duncan Taylor Peerless range contains a few well priced 40yo single malts (i saw earlier that Mr Murray has awarded the Glen Grant 40 an award which would give me the confidence to purchase). This one

Oh, i just had a look and that Glenrothes Lonach is £100 less than the Glen Grant ^^ and i thought the Grant was well priced.

I am actually in Sydney, Australia. Unfortunately whisky prices here are rather high due to taxes and other various reasons.

The three whiskys i mentioned are approximately AU$170ea. We are currently at near parity with US currency so you get the idea where our $ is pegged at.

Thank you for the suggestions, I shall keep my options open for now.
