I have a Whiskey Collection that needs to be Sold - Ideas?

Hello,

I have a good size whiskey collection that needs to be sold. Most of the bottles retail between $100 -$300. But there are a few rare and vintage that are $500 - thousands it seems.

What is an appropriate avenue to sell them? I do not need the cash immediately so I have time to maximize sale price, but I do not want to spend an inordinate amount of time on this. Obviously eBay USA is out.

I am sure there are legal consideration as well as the collection is located in New Jersey, USA.

I have never sold anything myself this way personally, but if the bottles are of the prices you say they are, see if you can contact a somewhat local Auction house, hopefully they would know a bit more about what the laws are and if they are even able to sell them on your behalf. I encourage you to be incredibly careful about selling the bottles personally as unless you have a license you could get arrested for selling alcohol without a license in some states (if not the entire USA).

I'm not sure why ebay is out. I've bought and sold 15-20 thousands of dollars worth of whisk(e)y there over the years. I do agree that Bonhams would be a good place to talk to about this if the collection is as you say.
