Glenlivet XXV

Happy New Year everyone !!

I was wondering if anyone has tried the Glenlivet XXV over the Holidays. I'm looking at that or the Macallan Fine Oak 21. Both are 379.95 here in Ontario. I've never had the pleasure of trying either one of these, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Of the 2 I would certainly pick Glenlivet XXV. Much more to it than the Mac 21 because of the sherry influence. Mac 21 is pretty boring and over-priced in my opinion

It suprised me at the Liquor store, as i went in to buy the Glenlivet 18 and the XXV was eyeing me through the locked glass case. I didn't even know it was available. But for 379.00 a bottle.....how much better is it over the 93.00 bucks a bottle 18YO?

It is all personal preference but I prefer the 25 to the 18. But there is more sherry influence in the 25 and that is probably why. As far as bang for the buck go for the 21yr if they have that

I found i prefer the 18 over the 21. But truth be told, i've only had one bottle of 21 compared to many of the 18. Maybe time to try the 21 again.

Is the 25 going to be part of the Glenlivet line-up for awhile?

The 25 is fantastic. I've been drinking some Oban Distillers Edition tonight and I must say that for the money, I'll buy 3 more bottles of that before I get another Glenlivet 25. If I can get my hands on a bottle of Ardbeg 17, I'd do that before any of the others.

The XXV is part of the standard range, a rather easy and pleasant drinking Glenlivet (http://www.whisky-news.com/En/tasting18.html). The XXV is more sherried than the 18 YO. The XXI is the one I enjoyed the most of the three.

Talking about Macallan, I prefer the 100% sherry than the fine Oak. The 18 YO used to be very good and good values (for an official Macallan)

I'm a Mac nut; just ask the other fellers. :D That said, I would say get the Glenlivet. The FO selections seem to be way to oaky. I'd be much more interested in straight bourbon casks of Macallan than the vatted or sherry finished versions.

As for the Glenlivet 25, it is very nice. Much more elegant than the 25 but you run into the price vs quality issue. If you are looking at QPR, stick with the 18. If you are looking for that special treat, buy the 25.

Hey Guys

Sorry to bump this old post, but here we are yet again. I'm looking at adding to the collection before the Holidays.

The Glenlivet XXV calls to me everytime i'm in the store. So does the Macallan 18.

I really enjoy The Glenlivet 18 and 21. But in Ontario the Glenlivet XXV is 349.00 so you can imagine why i pause before buying.

The Macallan 18 is 249.95.

Anyone have any new thought's on the Glenlivet XXV ?
