What would you buy with $1,000?

What whisk(e)y, either one bottle or several, of the higher priced expressions would you buy with up to $1,000 budget?

As I buy to drink and not collect, with $1,000 I would likely splurge on 4-5 really good bottles. This is because I honestly have a hard time believing any single bottle is worth 1k or more in terms of taste. While I do not have an exact list in mind nor an exact way to be close to that price I would consider:

An older Macallan Sherry Bottle (18 or older).
Pappy Van Winkle 15 or older.


Then likely a quite a few IB's which it would really depend on whats available at the time.

I am more fond of sherry and bourbon cask influences than excessive sea and peat flavors. So the IB's would likely be from Speyside/ Highland distilleries.

Well my Mrs has given me $1000 to buy whisky before and I had to make that excact choice.
I chose 4-5 bottles over 1 $1000. Wouldn't change that decision.

Well they were all quite rare and I bought them from Japan(all Scottish whisky). Stuff you may find at auction but 2 were Japan only releases. I guess all I was trying to say is that I would rather buy 5 instead of 1. There is plenty of cracking whiskys in the $200 range.

If i had a $1000 (£650 in real money LOL) i'd go for about 5 bottles. If it had to be one, then an old single cask Ardbeg.

I concur. I would buy 7 or so bottles just out of my current price range.

Balvenie 21 yo Port Wood or 17 yo New Wood
Glenmorangie Signet
Bruichladdich or Highland Park 18
Old Pulteney 17
Ardbeg Uig. or Corry. (could they make those any harder to spell?)
