Suggestions for online order?

Postby zl725 » Wed Mar 07, 2012 11:25 am

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to purchase 3 whiskies out of the following list from TWE (budget 20-35GBP). I enjoy peaty, sherried, and subtle/complex flavoured whiskies (one of each style would be ideal). I'm not keen on easy drinking "everyday drams" so please advise me if some of the ones on the list fit that bill. Other suggestions more than welcome. Thanks!

Aberlour 12 Double Cask
An Cnoc 16YO
An Cnoc 1994/2008
An Cnoc 1996/2011
Benriach 12Yo Importanticus Fumosus (Port Finish)
Glencadam 10yo
Glencadam 15yo
Glendronach 15yo Revival
Ledaig 10yo
Tomintoul 14yo
Tomintoul 16yo

From your list i'd immediately go for the Tomintoul 14, it's a cracker. For some peat how about the Longrow 14, slightly over budget but it has a few quid knocked off at £42. The Glendronach 15 Revival or the Glenfarclas 15 would make it a fine trio.

In the sherried one, glendronach 15 for sure (glenfarclas 15 is far to be as good but is more easy on the palate). Bowmore tempest batch can also be a choice, it's a peaty/fruity malt(grapefruit, lemon, some tropical fruits and smoke).

The whisky exchange is not anymore what it was. Prices are up(a lot, more than in other places)and choice is down(a lot also).

Prices tend to be cheaper on the continent now.

The Ledaig 10 (UCF) is supposed to be a lovely dram with a fair bit of complexity and a touch of peat. I think the Glendronach Revival is a good sherried choice. Benriach will probably be the biggest on the peat from that group.

The Aberlour would likely qualify as the "nice every day dram". An Cnocs drift towards subtlely complex range, although some would qualify it as "boring". I have not had the 16 nor either vintage but have been dramming the 12. If you wish, I can put up some notes later tonight.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I think I'll definitely go with Tomintoul 14 and the Glendronach 15. Might give up the idea of a peated malt though, I do already own quite a lot of those.

Just took the plunge. Ordered the following:

Tomintoul 14
Glendronach 15
An Cnoc 1994/2008
Glenlivet (Signatory) 1996 / 14 Year Old / Sherry Butt / 55.4%

Fingers crossed that they sneak past Australian Customs without being slapped with duty and tax :P
