Yet another Whisky advice (for a gift)

Postby Zapbeeb » Fri May 04, 2012 11:33 pm

Hi everyone.

I'd like to buy a bottle of whisky as a gift for my dad, since his birthday is just around the corner.

I know he likes smoky and rich whiskys and he is actually through a bottle of Lagavulin 16 yo.

I'm looking for something similar yet better and/or a tasting set that he may like.

Thanks for your advices (and excuse my somewhat poor english  )

There is so much available. We do need to know where you are at to give you some good recommendations. Also, budget is helpful. Can you mail order where you are?

Dram's recommendation of Tali 18 is most excellent. The 25 yo version of Tali is also exceptional. Not quite as smokey as the Lagavulin but they are complex with smokey notes. Laphroaig 18 is very good but the price varies quite a bit depending on where you are.

I will add the Lagavulin Distillers Edition the list as well. Very similar to the Laga 16 but with some extra sherry notes. :smoke:
