Glenfiddich Foundation Reserve

This is my first post after months of simply reading the forum, thanks for everyone's help in answering others questions. Now I have two of many of my own......

I have wanted a bottle of the very rare Glenfiddich Foundation Reserve for a few months now and one appeared recently on eBay for £279.

But of course I waited a few hours too long and it was sold very quickly. Upon further research I found more bottles online but in the region of £450-£500.

I know that last year when it had it's release you could buy it for £50 which is stupidly cheap for a single cask Glenfiddich but less than a year later it's increased to almost ten times it's original value

Do you think it would be wise to purchase a bottle at £450-£500?

If there were only 500 bottles created and assuming (according to other forums) that most people bought 2 or 3 and drank one then is it right to assume there are probably only 250 closed bottles left? Or am I looking at this the wrong way?

Just found a bottle for £399 but this seems to be the absolute cheapest I can find now

Another one just popped up on eBay for £380 and I found one on a site called Whiskybid for £320 but it's a bit of a strange site so I'll give that one a miss

I suppose if the the Foundation Reserve is moving this fast - what's to say it won't hit £1000 by Summer 2013?

That's worth considering.

I think we are well past the initial bump. This is the "takes time" period.

bit of a noob reply here but if we are to suppose that most people upon the initial offering bought two, one to drink and one to keep then is right to assume that there would only be around 250 closed bottles which would make it rarer or don't we look at things like that. (noob question)

No need to panic, there will be plenty more opportunities if your into that kind of thing.

Dramtastic is correct. If that is what you want to do there are potential investment bottles released all the time.

It your a spectator as your name suggests forget this one and look for the next bottle.

If your desperate for one of these look at picking one up at Scotch Whisky Auctions in the next auction bound to be one, two or three in the next.

you can buy these for £250 on ebay sometimes .. me thinks its the classic whisky price graph... low .. very high, drop to mid leagues then a slow burn upwards

Yes I agree, this seems to be the trend for whiskys that are bought for resale..
Macallan Jubilee/ Royal Wedding are another two examples

The price seems to be steady now, can't see it reaching too much higher, I was lucky to get 3 bottles, and as I am to understand bottles 1-5 and 500 were never released for general sale but were for private auction,
