Such blatant lying

I was looking at some whisky auctions on a well known internet auction site and one seller was telling blatant lies about the whisky he was selling.

He claimed that his bottle
Talisker - Natural Cask Strength - 1978 30 year old Whisky
was bottled over 20 years ago

He made the same claim for his bottle
Port Ellen (silent) - 1st Release - 1979 22 year old Whisky

How can we rid the whisky world of such liars and con men?

Why don't you come out and say Fleabay, er Ebay? The seller is likely doing it because of Ebay's new policy that it had to be released 20 years ago (such an arbitrary number).

the best one is the macallan private eye is advertised as a 35 years old whisky as well as a 1961 vintage nether are correct

the vatting of casks include one from 1961 and the majority of the whisky is twelve years old that is why there is no age statement on the bottle

i can understand some people getting this wrong but as i have told ebay many times it makes you wonder what they are doing

its the old adage buyer beware

you can still get around ebays 20 year old rule until they teel you so it will take a while till every one knows

No reason to lie to prospective buyers.

No one can argue with that. Many eBay sellers just don't know any better though. We all know that a Talisker 10 bottled 10 years ago isn't a 20 year old, but i see this sort of thing all the time. Often if you check their history there is no whisky sold so many are just ignorant.

Ultimately it's you the buyer that must know what you're doing. Caveat emptor.
