Whisky cost by region (USA)

Postby bscepter » Thu Jun 06, 2013 11:21 pm

using a couple of benchmarks, i'm curious as to the cost of these common expressions where you live.

for omaha, ne:

Laphroaig 10: $44
Lagavulin 16: $79
Macallan 12: $50
Balvenie DW: $50
Ardbeg 10: $52
Glenmorangie 10: $39

it seems as if those of you in sunny california can get these for much less than we can here in the midwest. is that a tax thing? so, what do these whiskies cost in your part of the world?

interesting. i asked because when i google a particular whisky for information on it, i often get vendor sites that carry it but only ship within california. and they're often waaaay cheaper than they are here.

for Lansing Michigan:

Laphroaig 10: Not Sure will report back after I am next in the store.
Lagavulin 16: Not Sure will report back afterI am next in the store.
Macallan 12: $56 (Apparently a state mandated Minium).
Balvenie DW: $68
Ardbeg 10: I need to check but I believe it is around $60
Glenmorangie 10: $43

Throwing another one out there that I have heard is insanely high in Michigan:

Glenlivet 18: $98.

I'm in the Milwaukee area, but I forget what these things run. I often buy from Binny's in Chicagoland, and their prices are online, so here they are. My guesses for Milwaukee prices are in parentheses.

Laphroaig 10 is $50 (50?)
Ardbeg 10 is $50 (55)
Macallan 12 is $50 (less)
Balvenie DW is $50 (40)
Lagavulin 16 is $80 (80)
Glenmorangie Original is $30 (more)

Laphroaig 18: $100 (?)
Glenlivet 18: $100 (same?)

Binny's lists Macallan 18 for $200! It's $160 at at least one place in MKE.

I thought the Mac18 had been $150 forever.

I like Livet, but $100 for the 18 is just too much.

That probably is about the time I started paying attention to it. :)

Wow, no wonder you old-timers complain about the state of whisky these days!

our local trader joe's just started carrying spirits. unlike their wine prices, their liquor prices seem to be pretty good. i picked up a laphroaig 10 yo there for $42 and a glenmorangie 10 yo for $37. i haven't tried any of their house brands. there's a "lismore" single malt for $17(!), but i'm guessing it tastes like arse.
