In 1894 cost of a bottle of whisky

Postby Researcher » Thu Feb 27, 2014 7:07 pm

Hi everyone in the whisky world. Can anyone help me out.

Question: If I went into a shop in 1894 in the Uk, what would the cost be of a bottle of Scottish whisky? The size of bottle is what you would think as a bottle of whisky looks like.
Can anyone help me out on this?
I'm working on a shipwreck maritime book, and was wondering the cost.

Thank you all, I do hope someone knows this and can help me out.

Google search for newspaper images from that time that have whisky ads. I found this one from 1900 that shows American whiskeys ranging from $3 to $5 per gallon.

Thanks for that, well done. Ff my sums are right from your valuable information; it roughly works out; at, about, around, maybe, "7 shillings" a bottle.
Can anyone confirm my figure of "7 shillings" you'd pay for one bottle of whisky in the year 1900.

Lets put it like this; you've jumped into your time machine and pop back to the year 1900. Then into the shop you go: The question is: What would you pay for a bottle of whisky, in UK; in the year 1900? (size of bottle, normal bottle that we all think of).

Thanks all

The closest I could find was an ad from Ireland from 1902 for Irish Whiskey. It's kind of hard to read, but maybe it will be helpful to you. It's about 3/4 of the way down this page.
