How should I store my whisky ?

Postby Matt2 » Thu Nov 30, 2000 5:19 pm

Are there ideal conditions to store whisky. Will sunlight affect the flavour ?

Thanks

Matt,

there are indeed ideal conditions to store whisky. Firstly the whisky needs to be away from direct light as the label and whisky can change colour (although that may take decades). Secondly the temperature should not get too cold or too hot and thirdly whisky should be kept upright as corks can often go bad over time.

Regards,

David

PS - do you have much of a collection?

Hi David/Matt,

I've begun using the same system as for opened wine bottles, to lessen the exposure to air (oxygen) for my opened premium bottles.

However, I've had several corks break/fall apart (sometimes even disintegrate) in opened bottles, so I prefer plastic or metal..
