There can be a world of difference between the latest on-line auction bid and the final price. Whisky auctions seem to be especially prone to last minute bids after days of silence. I used to know what the word for this is. My guess is that the first couple of bottles on ebay will go for higher prices and if other bottles follow, the price will steadily fall. I still think this was priced at more than the value of the whisky. People were not buying the whisky - they were buying the prospect of future profits. If it becomes apparent that the future profits are not there to be had, the price of the bottles will start to drop to a level that matches the value of the whisky.
Unless my economics theory is deceiving me.
