Speyside 21 yrs

Postby Frank D.Scott » Wed Sep 19, 2001 5:59 pm

I recently came across a bottle of 21 year old Speyside at my local stockists, but some research I found out that the distillery did not open until 1993.So what is going on?

Hi Frank,

are you sure it is a bottle of Single Malt?
There also exist several Vatted Malts and Blended Whiskies from the Speyside Distillery Company.
Speyside can be a Blended that can also be found with an age of 8, 12, 15, 17, 21, 25 and 30 years.
This Blend belongs to the ex-partner-company Campbell & Clark. After the takeover through Speyside Distillery Co. these Brand may be produced under the new proprietaryname.

I've seen the 21YO in my local store too. It is a blended -- $75 US, pretty steep for a blend. The bottom of the clear bottle is similar in shape to The Balvenie's bottles, but the neck is very long. Also a red ribbon on it somewhere.
