I been to a few whisky shows in the USA and I am always surprised to see glamours titles:
Master of Scotch
Master of Whiskey
Master of Scotch Knowledge...and etc..
Who has certified them as Master of ? If the SWA is so concered with Vatted and Blended then why don't they take these titles to task? Are they not deceptive? Having spoke to a large company X rep in NY I was puzzled to find that the person has no real knowledge of Distillation pratical or otherwise. Did not know anymore about there brands than what the "Q" card told them. How can they be a "Master"? Just working for company X does not mean they have knowlege. In my opinion these titles are insults to those people who have earned real titles such as "Master Distiller" and "Master Blender". At least there accomplishments can be quantified far beyond a 100 pound bar bill at the Pot Still in Glasgow. I am sure there are a couple of excpetions, however, not enough to make it a rule.
Am I just reading too much into this? What do you think?
Cheers,
