Hi can anybody tell me who ownes the Scapa distillery ? Is it true that Highland Park makes whisky in Scapa ? Will it be reopend for Allied Domecq Ballanrtine's ? Thank you very much in advance. Filip Verleye
The Scotch Whisky Association webpages (http://www.scotch-whisky.org.uk) claim Scapa to be owned by Allied Distillers Ltd which is part of the Allied Domecq group when Highland Park is owned by Highland Distillers Ltd according to same reference. I'm not sure whether this answered to all your questions.
in Germany I had a tasting led by a whiskyspecialist from Remy. He told us the craftsmen from Highland Park would be lend out for the work in Scapa, but named no tasks the craftsmen fulfill precisely. It´s right that both destilleries have different owners, but I think both know they are no direct competitors for each other, because of the different style both malts have. And both destilleries save much money by doing so.
Again, Scapa is owned by Allied Domecq, and Highland Park is owned by Highland Distillers. The crew from Highland Park will do the work for Allied every now and then, wich means they operate the distillery for them, it's also known that Scapa only produces every now and then, depending on the production needs........
Erik is right .I also know that Scapa only produces when the Highland Park distillery is closed for cleaning. So Scapa is run by the craftsmen from Hp once every 3 yrs for a short period.
