Macleod's Islay malt whisky?

Postby Deactivated Member » Wed Jul 03, 2002 9:00 am

Hello all,

I was given recently a bottle of Macleod's Single malt Islay whisky - while it is rather a pleasant dram, it has left me wondering A) is it indeed a single malt, B) which islay distillery it actually is from?

If anyone can offer answers to these questions, I would be very chuffed indeed.

Thank you in advance,

What is the age statement?

If it is 8 Y.O. Macleod's Single Malt Johannes van den Heuvel (http://www.maltmadness.com) believes it's Lagavulin, although on his bottle there wasn't mention about Islay ...

Kippis,
Ize

Hello Ize,

yes it is eight years old. Good value for money I would say, nice, young Islay.

The bottle says actually "Island" now that I think of it, but from the nose & taste I gathered it must be an Islay whisky. I was pondering it could have been an expression of Caol Ila, possibly Lagavulin or even a odd Ardbeg.

Thank you for your reply,

You're welcome,

there is Finlaggan 8 Y.O. which comes also from Lagavulin distillery. If one had possibility to taste them head-to-head, I guess we would know this for sure. Image

As a matter of fact, since studying Macleod's website and some other sources, since my bottle IS indeed the one marked "island", I wager that the content is not of islay-origin after all - but instead a young Talisker.
