"Kentucky Whiskey"

A couple of days ago, a friend of mine gave me a glass of a completely clear liquid without letting me see the bottle. I guessed it was whisky, but couldn't place it further than that, so he showed me the bottle. It was a plastic (PET) litre bottle, with a label which simply stated "Kentucky Whiskey, distilled in Nelson County, abv 40%". He bought it at an off-licence in Chester which had sold out (probably because of the price - £7.99 a litre!) and couldn't tell him anything about it. It really wasn't bad stuff at all - a bit spirity, but pleasantly sweet and fairly full-bodied. Does anyone know anything about this strange liquor? Would it be straight corn whiskey?
