Uisge Beatha gu brath. correct spelling?

Postby r0b » Thu Sep 19, 2002 9:16 pm

I'm no wizard when it comes to Gaelic. In fact, I am not even sure I spelled the topic correctly. May someone here confirm the spelling, and that the meaning is "(The) Water of Life forever".

I've read this about a million times by now, but still want to be absolutely sure.

It's rather important, too. I'm having it tattoed in rather big block letters on my arm in just a few days. Image

Also, is there any .wav or even .mp3-file floating around of this expression so that I can actually learn to pronounce it? It was hell learning "Bruichladdich" and "Craigellachie", so I may need help on this one, too.

Thanks in advance, folks. Image

I have found 2 web sites that contain audio of pronounciations. They are www.malts.com and http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/home/jhb/whisky/pronounc.html.
Slainte! (not sure of this spelling!)

rOb,

Would you like a picture of the tattoo to appear in the magazine?

That would be great! Image I shall get back to you when the tattoo has been made. I still can't decide what style to use.

Good Luck with your tattoo.

But if you ask me single malt whisky is a tattoo for your Soul.
