Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist to be discontinued?

Postby -arsH » Tue Sep 02, 2008 11:51 am

The Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist is no longer on the Ardbeg web-shop. Sold Out? Discontinued? Anyone who knows?

Have spoken to the distillery on the telephone this afternoon. Stock simply sold out and expected back in the near future

It looks like they have removed it from the site to stop any confusion. At least my local Oddbins have a few left.

Wonder if they had a good laugh at the distillery over the panic that seems to have spread thru the forums about them running out of supplies.......

Yes! That's why I asked the question and just waited for the reply :coffee:
I knew there would be someone here who could confirm or not confirm this gossip.

If I worked at Ardbeg and read these forums, I'd probably do it on purpose at least once a year.

I tend to get my news about Ardbeg from a very reliable source, and he even has great tasting notes as well as information and tidbits about the other Islay distilleries. You can even see his website at...oh wait...that's you Gordon!

I just picked up the 2006 bottling. Is it noticably different from the later 2007 and presumably 2008 bottlings?

Haha...thanks orangedog about the sig. I really think the bottles hitting the States has more to do with our distributors. One store told me their distributor just sent them some new bottles of Ardbeg 10. They were L7's from day 221, an earlier batch than the bottles I had seen before he ran out.

As for the ANB, I still see stocks on shelves of the 2006 and 2007 so I think it may be hard to predict. Ardbeg is making more so it'll make it over here eventually.

Unfortunately, the tendencies of the US market and the US distributors and their stock is a bit more difficult to ascertain. As soon as someone in the US reports buying one is the only way to know when it is here. I guess that is a bit obvious...eh? HAHA!

Hi everyone,

Today I just picked up a bottle for $115.

After some initial nosing and two tastes I definitely feel out of my league. :o

This is some serious whiskey that will take at least 3 months to understand and appreciate.

The good thing is I can get more. :D

Happy Drams,

This is so good that I had to come back and comment tonight.

I pray Ardbeg never discontinues this bottling. Definitely going to put one into reserve.

What a wonderfully complex whiskey!!!

The nose is spot on to the tasting notes, and the lavender really surges through.

Nose: "The initial aroma is of vanilla ice cream and sea spray with hints of peat smoke and fuge sauce followed by fennel, pine nutes, zesty limes, geranium and lavender."

In addition, if you ever want to understand what someone means about waves of flavor on the palate taste this one. The first wave is peat, smoke, little bite of oily leather; followed by a surge of sweet barley and some sort of fruit.

Sorry to ramble on in the non-tasting section.

Happy Drams,

JB

I´m not too good at tasting notes but I did a HTH of all three recently and they were surprisingly different. All great but the 2008 was outstanding.

When I tried this last year I found it weak, watery and insignificant.

Maybe I'll give it on more try.

I second that. I had a sample from the 1st batch that wasn't really bad but medioce and boring.
Now I'm curious about the rescent batch.

When I talked to Mickey at the Feisl Ile, he told us that they are running low on casks from 1990 and the Beist will be probably phase out by the end of the year. Same thing for the Lords of the Isle, the last batch has been bottled.....

Hi,

Just for reference I bought a reserve bottle of ANB today for $115 in DE and PA has the same price excluding taxes. Should be interesting to see how the price changes if production is discontinued.

I was also able to get a bottle of Ardbeg 10 for $49.99 in DE, no taxes! 8)

Beist is also missing from the shop at the Distillery. Got one by asking but apparently being limited to one per customer.

I just got 2 bottles of the ANB for stock this week just in case it is going to be discontinued, but for just $90 (Binny's) it was really a no-brainer. The best price of the Beist I've seen anywhere in the States!

Cheers!
