Have the paperback version, not the fancy filofax style.

This is a brilliant publication for the beginner.

Firstly , it focuses on whiskies that are 'available' and 'affordable', as opposed to droning on about the merits of some 60yo costing £10k.

Secondly, it describes nose, taste, finish and body using language that mere mortals can understand.

Thirdly, the colour photos of distilleries are breathtaking. You almost feel that you're there.

Yeah, I saw this one in the store, and it looked pretty good. But C$55? No thanks.

I have the "fancy filofax style", which is great, as you can get updates for it on new distilleries etc, and keep the thing up-to-date that way.

Also, it allows you to put your tasting notes in it, and it is my steady companion to n&t's.

I used their layout for the tasting notes as a starting point for the tasting notes program layout which you can download for free from my site.

And the photography is indeed beautifull =D
