101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die

Postby Ian Buxton » Wed Sep 01, 2010 6:11 pm

Sorry for the blatantly self-interested plug but I have a new book out tomorrow and need to put food on the table!

It's callled "101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die" and some people who've seen it like it a lot. Here's what they've told me:

"I started reading your book, and I continued reading and I read it from cover to cover. I just couldn´t put it down...!" "It is a brilliant book ...witty..yet at the same time knowledgeable and to the point."
"..one of the best whisky books in recent years."
Ingvar Ronde, Editor, The Malt Whisky Yearbook

"A fun and accessible guide to completing an education in whiskey from a man who knows his hooch."
Kevin Erskine, The Scotch Blog

"...must-have book."
Bill Mackintosh, Glasgow Whisky Club

"..not many people on this planet (if any) that know more about whisky and the whisky trade."
"This new book is both a terrific reference and a 'journal' for anyone who is game to take up the challenge."
Franz Scheurer, Australian Gourmet Pages

That's quite enough - both Royal Mile Whiskies and good old Amazon.co.uk (and .com) have it in stock now. You can post your own review on amazon.co.uk
Please like it, I beg of you!

I like the sensible approach to avoiding daft priced and limited releases, it really looks great but I think the 'where to buy' bit is a bit short....

I am curious about what WM-members think of it. Has anyone read enough for a verdict?

It hasn't been out very long but there are already some positive reviews on the book's amazon.co.uk page (good deal there btw) and on the whiskymag.com forum.

Which is a relief!

Me too. Not with Tony Blairs book. Along with a book called Marmite Tips.

Well Ian, I ordered a copy from Amazon as well along with Whiskypedia: A Compendium of Scottish Whisky (Charles MacLean), Peat Smoke and Spirit: A Portrait of Islay and its Whiskies (Andrew Jefford), The World Atlas of Whisky (Dave Broom).

Sorry for delayed reply - didn't pick this up. Yes, lots of pictures - 101 in fact, plus a few bonus ones. But no 'heather & weather' style pictures.

It's been selling well (thank you!). In fact, they have had to reprint it to meet demand. Wonders will never cease!

Got it for Christmas and being as I am new to Whiskey (the understanding of it, not the drinking) it is going to prove very useful for starting my collection. :P

Having been down the road of acquiring and pouring over (more enjoyable when pouring alongside as well!) quite a few of the obligatory 'studious' books on whisky, not to mention authoring a couple myself, I've certainly had it in the back of my mind to try and procure a copy of 101 Whiskies To Try Before You Die.

Well, wouldn't you know it? I just came across and picked up a copy of Ian's book at a major downtown bookstore (the last one on the shelf, in fact - I consider myself lucky!).

Thank you Ian for a most enjoyable read.

Picked a copy up two days ago and immediately cover-to-covered it.

Every bit as enjoyable a read (perhaps even more so) as your first, Ian.
