Whisky Bible 2007 - Jim Murray

Postby Wendy » Wed Dec 06, 2006 4:47 am

Hello!

I decided to check out Jim Murray's website this evening. On the website there is a cover picture of the new Jim Murray's - Whisky Bible 2007. There is also a link to place your orders and inquiries for the fourth edition at: http://www.whiskybible.com/

I look forward to receiving my copy and hearing everyone's feedback!

Cheers,
Wendy

This picture has been there for a few weeks now, I think. I did read somewhere that the book will be available from the end of this week.

He's probably still waiting to hear back from "God" regarding the use of the word "Bible," especially when used with "Whisky" in front of it.

God said its "okay". Because bible can mean any authoritative book. Jims comes into that category and does not claim to be of divine origin.

Isn't the Wellingborough address Jim's home ?

Hi eelbrook,
The contact information on the website is JM's business address. On the website, there is a prompt to order books directly at: orders@whiskybible.com
I hope this is helpful.

Cheers,

It came from david gardiner head of whisky section at Nickolls and Perks, a wine merchants in Birmingham. They do have a web site but I'd assume if they have it so should most other shops. nb Whisky of the year is Brora 30 4th release apparently.

Shame it wasn't Edradour 10 - would have been more affordable. Hopefully there are some highly scored whiskies that pitch in under £200.

Lfw are selling it now. We preordered thru Amazon they are promising delivery by the 18th of December but I notice if you try to order now its availability is in January. Looks like being a good seller this year.

I ordered it from Amazon in October and they are now telling me I won't get it until after Christmas
Think I'll get it LFW next year - if I can stand up to Joynson's derisory comments

I put my order in too. I don't know when will http://www.play.com deliver it but at 11.49 euros (delivered home) it was the cheapest (probably). Ordered WB2006 also from them.

Crikey!
It's good, but I'm not sure I'd score it 96.
But then that's probably why I'm an engineer and not a whisky reviewer.

I do agree with you. The OOgie was very good, but not worth 96 to my opinion. Not to the same league as the Benriach 1984 or the Tullibardine 1966.
Haven't tried the ping 1, but were any other 1974 OB single Casks from Ardbeg also quoted or?

Yep change the last post amazon now quoting 4-6 weeks. I think they have lost the plot. and all perspective on the importance of such a thing . Numpties the lot of them.

Amazon's software seems to have completely lost the plot.

Most of my Wish List items say In Stock ... until I try to order them, then they pop up with 4-6 weeks. :(

I'll wait until someone at Amazon pays the publishers and buys a new warehouse full of stock...

But is it as good as Serendipity, I wonder?...

It is still not available at Amazon. com yet. I was able to find it at Amazon.co.uk though. I think I remember last year it took a few extra months to make it to the States.

Whisky Bible 2007

Postby Onefortheditch » Sat Dec 16, 2006 12:29 am

Have recently bought this and read some of it.

JM is a man who writes about 250-300 pages of tasting notes on whisky and what’s his choice of “a great meal….about as good as it gets"? A pork pie, white cheese and weak beer… (there’s not even a mention of intense kumquat!!)….and why?.....because its traditional!!

He sells it and we buy it!!

And of course the whisky of the year was a blend….fortunately that was Jim’s year…

Yes he really has lost it this year….roll on the 2008 edition….

Because the exchange rate from British pounds to American dollars is not very good at the moment. Shipping from the UK is rather expensive as well. If I wait until it is available in the US it will cost me half of what it would to order it now.

I'm pretty sure JM finished it late summer or early autumn 2005 (The foreword is dated July 2005) and that it was published october 2005.

I don't normally buy this type of book as i don't personally score whisky in this manner , i either like it , don't like it or somewhere in between but i bought this one for one very good reason , as Lawrence has already hinted , my Port Charlotte bottling is reviewed in it .
So for those of you who don't have a copy (or a magnifying glass!) , you can read it here
