Whisky Bible 2007 - Jim Murray

Are you looking for a rare book or would you like to review what you are reading?

Have now read through pretty much all of this years Bible and found it to be an interesting read. He doesn't hold back with some of his reviews does he? I think my favourite review was that for Pittyvaich 12 year old. Very amusing indeed! Does anyone else have a favourite review?

I think most people quite like the Dunglas review (see under Littlemill). I read the Bible for the good reviews rather than the bad. Usually they point me in interesting directions that I might not otherwise have explored. The only word of caution, though, is the massive grade inflation (like A Levels). The inside front cover says whiskies in the 90-93 category are excellent, and 94-97 as superfab whiskies that give one a reason to live. In the first edition, perhaps this was true. But now, almost every distillery has a 94+, with around a quarter having a 96+. This means the 90-93 category is one that now indicates whisky to be sniffy about, and 89 and below are to avoid like the plague.

That is a good one Nick, thanks. Don't think I could be tempted to pick up a bottle of this one

Yeah, good one Nick.

One of my personal favourites is the Dufftown RM '75 note. Short and concise, yet says it all. :D

I bought my first copy of this book a few weeks ago.

I can safely say that I haven't missed anything by not buying the first three and I won't be missing anything when I don't buy another one.

I decided to check out Jim Murray's website this evening. On the website there is a cover picture of the new Jim Murray's - Whisky Bible 2007. There is also a link to place your orders and inquiries for the fourth edition at: http://www.whiskybible.com/

I look forward to receiving my copy and hearing everyone's feedback!

Cheers,

Hello Wendy

I started collecting single malts in 2006,soon found out I needed reference
books and blogs to make good choices about what to buy,the 2006 Whisky Bible came out on Oct 31,2006,I happened to look at LFW web site on Dec1,2006 and it said the new WB was out,I assumed it was the same one I had gotten Nov 06 but noooo,it was the 2007 edition,so I was 11 months behind the curve of people in the UK,I bit the bullet and had LFW send me the 2007,I asked the manger of Barnes and Noble why this was so,she gave me the e-mail of their buyer whom I e-mailed and this was the reply, the publisher was the one doing this,so if you want the most up to date WB buy it in the UK not USA or Canada,it hard enough not getting all the choices that the UK buyers let alone trying to find some malts that are long gone because you don't have the most current info.Cheers

Hello lwknigh,
Thank you for the tip. I think a number of people from North America have been ordering their 2007 Whisky Bible directly through Jim's website. When I first posted my message, I knew that the Bible's had been sent to the printers, but had not seen the new book nor updates on the website. I was mostly delighted to catch a sneak peek of the Bible and wanted to share that info with others.

I happily received, along with many others, a copy of the 2007 Whisky Bible at the January Victoria Whisky Festival (see Events thread) from Jim Murray who was a guest presenter.

Jim has been diligently working towards negotiating distribution of the 2007 Bible in the United States and Canada. So, hopefully many more North Americans can soon purchase their book on home turf.

Welcome to the forum, lwknigh.

Cheers,
Wendy

Hi Mustardhead,
I was just wondering what is was in particular you didn't like about JM's writing. Are there any other authors / reviewers you would rate instead. I only ask as I am looking to add to my whisky book collection.

Cheers

Jim updates Mark about the status of the 2007 Whisky Bible in an interview on WhiskyCast - Episode 91: May 13, '07.

I also really enjoyed the piece on Ardmore.

Cheers,

Yes, Amazon has it down for release for October 1st, which is tomorrow. Unlikely, I'd say.

I've ordered a copy from Amazon today and the confrimation e-mail says estimated dispatch date 2nd October, so that's a good sign. That said, I really hope they're sending me the right one. I did order the 2008?? I'm now starting to doubt myself.

Best price seems to be Tesco at 1/3 off the RRP of £9.99, as per usual - bargains to be found at the supermarkets. Says delivery from tomorrow, looks like it launched today.

Tesco will be keen to plug as Jim gave positive reviews for their own label stuff in the 2006 bible.

Anyway, have it in the basket! IWBRNT

Ordered at Tesco for £6.49 last night but got an e-mail first thing today saying 'Item not yet released. Expected for release on Monday 08 October 2007'.

Looks like we'll have to wait until next week.

No, I cancelled my Amazon order. I was in touch with the whiskybible site and they said they'd have them in this week, though. They accept paypal.

The shipment of Canadian stock (printed in Peru) is on its way and expected to arrive in Vancouver next week... I understand that Jim is in New York at the moment (terrorizing & celebrating).

I would suggest for those in the UK and Europe you would have the best results by going direct to whiskybible.com - and ordering a signed copy of three (so why bother with Amazon?).
