MICHAEL JACKSON - 6TH EDITION

Postby Deactivated Member » Tue Nov 06, 2007 1:29 pm

In view of his tragic death, has the 6th edition of Michael Jackson's book (originally scheduled for Oct 2007 publication) been 'axed' ?

Get them both - enough things change and there's good to great reading in either... Murray's book is handy as a portable reference when whisky hunting.

I own 4 editions of the Bible and 3 editions of Jackson - and like many a whisky can always find something different each and every time...

Is it still worth getting the 5th edition as it's now 4 years old?

Oh, that arrived a while ago. Good reading, although obviously a bit out of date bottling-wise.

It would be good if the 6th edition could be finished by someone and published.

A few weeks ago, an audience member at a tasting I was running came up to me afterwards and told me that he'd obtained a lead copy of MJ's 6th Edition - apparently all written posthumously by noted industry people and other whisky writers.

I admit I've only done a quick search on the net, but I can't find reference to this anywhere. Anyone else heard about the 6th edition being published?

Cheers,

Not published, but I have read in a least two different places that there will be a 6th Edition. The 6th edition can only be published once the inheritance (including the copy rights) has been fixed. I think it was Gavin Smith who will take care of its publication.

Ok gang this is what we know here at Whisky Towers.

The 6th edition is currently being worked on at the moment, but as yet publication date is not set.

If I hear anymore I will let you all know

I understand that this is to be written by Gavin Smith and Dominic Roskrow.
Meanwhile, Dorling Kindersley are producing another whisky book (longer than the Eyewitness Guide) with a number of writers including yours truly.

Thanks for those replies!

Mind you, it makes me wonder what this guy was reading. When I expressed surprise about it, he insisted that it was the 6th edition.

I'm sure he must therefore have got his wires crossed, but I wonder what with?

I'd hazard a guess that he confused it with the Dorling Kindersley "Eyewitness Companion" Whisky edited by Charles MacLean and with different sections written by Dave Broom, Tom Bruce-Gardyne, Ulf Buxrud, Glenn Gillen, Peter Mulryan, Hans Offringa, Dominic Roskrow, Gavin Smith and me.
It's a great first-time starter book, really comprehensive and like all DK books, copiously illustrated.
