An oft quoted reference due to his passage on 'the challenge of the still'. After reading George Saintsburys 1920 'Note on a Cellar Book' I picked up 'Drink'. I found it not as accessible as other books of the time (1948) due to my ignorance of classic education. The author has a particular interest in drinking songs, which became a bit waring. He demonstarted an encyclopeadic knowledge of times long past but I was generaly lost.
Difficult to recommend as an easy or casual read.
