Cardhu distillery is reverting back to its original name of Cardow, which was last used more than 20 years ago. The move is designed to end any confusion after owners Diageo repositioned Cardhu single malt as a vatted malt.
The name was first used when the distillery was licensed in 1824 and was changed to echo the brand name of its whisky. Now that the brand includes other Speyside whiskies it was felt that the original name would be more appropriate. Cardow remains in full production, supplying the whisky for both Cardhu 12 Year Old Pure Malt and Johnnie Walker.
