Over 800,000 gallons of Jim Beam bourbon have gone up in smoke after one of its warehouses caught fire in early August. The wooden warehouse in Bardstown, which contained 2 percent of Jim Beam’s ageing bourbon inventory, was believed to have been set alight when the building was struck by lightening. No other warehouses on the site were damaged
After our warning in Issue 31 over fake bottles of Johnnie Walker in circulation, more contaminated whisky has been found. 14,000 litres were seized by British customs in Poole and were thought to be tainted with methylated spirits, which could have posed a serious health hazard to whisky drinkers.
Our cover story last issue on the film Whisky Galore was rather timely, as it looks like a new version is to be filmed by French media giant Canal Plus. The remake of this classic Ealing Studios comedy set on the Island of Barra should provide a boost for the isle’s local economy as well as whisky industry.
