Bowmore Single Malt Scotch Whisky’s craftsmen have today unveiled a limited edition expression, the ‘Maltmen’s Selection’.
As some of the key people behind their distinctive malt, Bowmore distillery has invited its longest serving maltmen to play an extra special part in the whisky making process. The maltmen are proud to introduce their selection for this 13-Year-Old Bowmore single malt which captures a century’s worth of knowledge and experience from the Bowmore distillery. The ‘Maltmen’s Selection’ is the latest limited edition in the existing highly acclaimed range of original whiskies from the Isle of Islay.
On 13 July 1995, four maltmen carefully selected five aged sherry casks in which to pour the spirit to mature. Now, the fruits of their labours are revealed: 3,000 unique bottles of single malt whisky with an outstanding character. To celebrate their achievement, and as a mark of quality, each bottle’s presentation box carries the four maltmen’s signatures.
Bowmore’s Scottish grown barley is still laboriously hand turned by the maltmen using the traditional wooden malt shovel, exactly the same way as their predecessors did years before them. Bowmore distillery, Islay’s oldest, is one of the few to still produce its own floor malted barley.
The consumer is rewarded with a single malt whisky that is deep amber in colour, and has an incredible rich, fruity and smoked oak chip aroma with a finish that is long and sweet with just a hint of peat smoke.
The ‘Maltmen’s Selection’ is the first in a new series of annual releases from Bowmore’s craftsmen. David Turner, one of the maltmen, said: “13 years on, it’s wonderful to play such an important role in selecting what we believe to be the finest quality whisky for bottling”.
Bottling is exclusively available for purchase (£120 RRP) at the Bowmore Distillery Visitor Centre, and via http://www.bowmore.co.uk <http://www.bowmore.co.uk> .
