South Africa’s inaugural whisky festival this autumn attracted over 2500 whisky lovers – twice the number of visitors expected. For the first time, South Africa had almost 140 whiskies under one roof.
Masterclasses, run by distillers and ambassadors, also proved extremely popular. Some whiskies used the festival to launch into the South African market, where there is growing interest in malts. Whisky newcomers as well as connoisseurs and tourists all enjoyed the festival. After this initial success it looks to become an annual event.
