Drumchork Lodge Hotel in Wester Ross, dubbed the ‘Highland home of whisky’ has been granted a private distiller’s licence.
Owners and malt enthusiasts John Clotworthy and Frances Oates are delighted with the decision, which follows 18 months of discussion with local authorities. Drumchork has been granted permission to use a still under the regulation 1800 litres size.
It is very unusual for a commercial premise in Britain to be allowed to make its own whisky.
The still will be a replica of the illicit stills that were once used in the region of the North West Highlands where the hotel is based.
