London is undergoing a whisky craze after the opening of a series of whisky-driven bars.
In recent weeks Salt and Trailer Happiness have both opened their doors boasting extensive whisky ranges, and the Penguin Bar at Scotts in Mayfair and the Millbank Lounge at City Inn, Westminster, are both beefing up their selection of whisky.
Further openings are expected.
A new Scottish-themed restaurant and bar called Albannach is set to open in Trafalgar Square at the site of the old Aberdeen Angus steakhouse in May, and there are rumours that another leading style bar entrepreneur is planning a Scottish bar with a focus on Scotch whisky.
“There is certainly a huge interest in whisky at the moment,” said one industry figure. “Barmen seem excited by the challenge of working with something as complex as single malt whisky.”
