Glasgow set for major celebration

Postby Matt2 » Thu Aug 05, 2004 2:30 pm

Whisky Magazine’s premier live event comes to Glasgow in September – and it’s shaping up to be the magazine’s biggest event so far.

Whisky Live, a public celebration of whisky already held in London, Tokyo and Paris, will be held in Glasgow’s George Square on the 10th and 11th of September.

It will bring all the great whiskies of the world together in one arena. Samplings, tutored tastings, meeting the producers, and the opportunity to buy your favourite dram are just some of the attractions at Whisky Live.

Whisky Live Glasgow will have a host of features not on offer anywhere else in the world. It will be held in George Square, Glasgow in two pavilions. The first, called Whisky Live, is designed to appeal to whisky enthusiasts; the second, called the Whisky Experience, is aimed at those new to whisky.

There will also be an open air zone with live music and a public bar. Offering a memorable whisky experience for visitors from Scotland and across the world, Whisky Live Glasgow will also be a unique opportunity to experience the distilleries and whisky tourism.

Whisky Live Glasgow will be Scotland’s greatest celebration of this greatest of products, and the event is supported by Glasgow City Council and the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Tourist Board Councillor Alex Mosson, City Marketing Events spokesperson said: “This is an excellent opportunity for Glasgow and we are proud to play host to such a prestigious event. The many distillers and whisky producers will be able to focus the world’s attention on what we believe is the best whisky in the world.

Scott Taylor, Greater Glasgow and Clyde Valley Tourist Board director of marketing, said, “We’re delighted to welcome Whisky Live to Glasgow.

“It will be not just a great event for citizens of Glasgow but also a great aid to us in selling the city to convention buyers and potential visitors, particularly in the North American market.”
