Israel's finest to Glenmorangie

Postby Sally Toms » Mon Nov 28, 2005 3:44 pm

Sixteen of Israel’s top bar owners, managers and bartenders travelled to Glenmorangie to learn more about the spirit by experiencing it in in the mash house, still house and warehouses.

The visitors were winners of a nationwide bar competition held in their home country, to sell the most bottles of Glenmorangie.

Israel has a population of six million people and consumes more than 2.4 million bottles of whisky a year, of which Glenmorangie is the best seller.

Considering the probable source of blurbs like this, I'd guess from Glenmorangie. Doesn't mean it isn't true, though. 'Morangie is sort of an under-the-radar top seller in the US, as well, if such a thing is possible.

This is a direct quote from a press release we received from Glenmorangie:

"Israel is one of the world's top whisky drinking nations. According to the Scotch Whisky Assocition, Israel, with a population of 6 million people consumes over 2.4 million bottles of Scotch whisky a year. Glenmorangie is the number one single malt Scotch whisky in Israel, selling one out of every three bottles imported. "

So now you know!

Israelis as large whiskies consumers? that's new

Postby YK23 » Fri Jan 06, 2006 4:09 pm

For a country that barely drinks alcohol (an average of 15 liter of beer per person) that's good news, personally i don't see many single malt drinkers, when it comes to whisky, mosy people go for blends and irish whiskies.
