Bars and pubs across Scotland are being encouraged to become registered as ‘whisky embassies’ and to educate their bar staff and pull in the drinkers.
The scheme, operated by the ScotlandWhisky initiative, is being extended to the bar trade after its successful roll-out in the hotel sector.
Whisky embassies must meet certain quality standards and in return for an annual membership fee receive a range of benefits including promotion via scotlandwhisky.com and training for bar staff from the Scotch Whisky Training School in Edinburgh.
Whisky Magazine has given its support to the scheme after launching its ‘great whisky bars of the world’ award at the start of the year.
