Matt,

Sneaky, it would be nice to know who has been nominated then make a few guesses on the possible winners.

That would be a great idea Fachan!
Any chance you could let us all know the nominees Matt?

I just noticed the new banner on WM, clicked it and then noticed the winners will only be announced at 11pm UK time tonight!

(Sorry Matt, I didn't notice this in your original post)

But why so late?

Surely on a UK-based forum this should be done at an earlier time in the day when we can see the news without having to wait until the following day!

The simple answer I presume is the fact that the awards are announced at a special Icons of Whiksy Dinner which is held the night before WL London opens. After a few "wee drams" I expect the acceptance speeches to take on Oscarian proportions and 11:30PM is the earliest time that Matt can be sure all the awards have been given out. Nothing worse than Icons checking what they've won on their blackberries before the buff envelopes have been opened.

Wasn't the American Icon of Whisky enough - worthy winner though (just need to learn to use the right type of grain!)

Also interesting to note what effect the new voting system has on the geographic balance of winners.

For those who missed the linky - the (real  ) Whisky nominees / winners are here:

Well in all fairness the Irish part of this competition does not have many competitors in the actual industry

But the Celtic Whiskey Shop well deserve their award for Best retailer in Ireland. Head and shoulders over than anything else in the retail sector for whiskey.

Yes, but Clontarf Castle? Maybe things have changed there since I last visited, but they just looked to have a standard whiskey menu, nothing more.

We met Colin Dunn from Bowmore at Whisky LIve. He was Nominated as an Ambassador. I can see why. A really nice guy, he came across as informative and very enthusiastic. Looked after us on the day.

Well done on the nomination Colin richly deserved.
