I have no idea, and not sure what happens in the hour between the two sessions? I'm sure Pippa will explain it all on Monday.

Well i've given it some thought and decided against going .
Seeing Glasgow would have involved a stay somewhere in a hotel instead i Will be going to Edinburgh the next week-end for my Birthday and spending a long evening in The Vaults where £46+ will give me a good selection of their finest Malts !
Sorry just too much for the Event .

I missed it last year but 4 hours and a reduced price is a smart move, I think.

Plus it is much nearer the city centre than the SECC, so I'm off to book tickets.

Hi

Anyone aware of who will be exhibiting this year?

I am desperate to go after "boycotting" last year.

The list at present while full of quality is rather short.

Oh for the good old days in George Sq..........

Angus Dundee
Glen Grant
Yamazaki
Auchentoshan
Glencairn Crystal
Springbank
Kilchoman Distillery
Glenmorangie
Penderyn
Whisky Mag

This is the list that Pippa sent me last week - still not been updated on website.....

Also I am not impressed with sessions 2 x 4 hours - 4 hours is too short.

Could be doing with more updates on the website. Wonder what the masterclasses will be.

4 hours isn't bad for £22, though.

£44 for eight with only a few distillers is not that enticing.

I've never been to either, but is the RMW Whisky Fringe not a better event? As far as I've know its a £25 for 4 hours, which is a £10 off voucher for a >£25 bottle of whisky and all you can drink whisky? Or have I got it wrong?

I'm still waiting for details on masterclasses but should have them up by the beginning of next week.

RMW fringe is sold out as far as I know.

Have been to both.

Moving the Glasgow event away from George Sq seems to have been a big mistake and the distillers seem reluctant to return?

I know that they are being asked to pay the same for 1 day as they were for the 2 day event previously.

I've never had a problem running out of vouchers at WLG.

Hi GPL

I'm not sure where you have got your information from (perhaps you'd like to PM me and tell me) but exhibitors are actually paying less than last year for a stand at Whisky Live.

More exhibitors will be on the website shortly.

Anyone want to go but not booked a ticket yet?

A mate of mine was going to go on Saturday, at 12pm, but has been forced to drop out.

PM me, if you are interested.

Pippa

I could tell you but that would not be the right thing to do.

Suffice to say that this exhibitior was not at last years event and when details of this year event came on informed me that he was being asked to pay the same for the single day this year as he was for 2 days at the SECC in 2007.

If I were an exhibitor I'd expect to pay half of what I did last year.

Not sure how much you guys are paying for the largest ballroom in Scotland but no doubt it is uber expensive?

Can I ask how the event is being advertised - is it solely through the Magazine?

Hi GPL

Thanks for your post. I can assure you that the 2009 ratecard for the show is 33.33% less than the 2008 show as a starting point. This is reflected in the hours of the show being now 8 rather than 12 hours. I do wish it was as simple as halving the costs!!

The thinking behind one day is easy in this current climate. To reduce direct costs to exhibitors and consumers and also on costs such as hotels etc which seriously up the cost of a show like Whisky Live.

I would also like to point out that we have reduced the ticket costs for 2009 in line with the show changes and we will still be providing food for the consumers as part of the ticket price.

We want to have as many brands there so if they want to get in touch they can with Gordon to discuss further. Gordon@whiskylive.com

In terms of marketing, we are keen to attract new consumers so there is going to be a whisky supplement in the Herald and we have already done a promotion with them. We are marketing it hard in the VisitScotland and Homecoming plans as well as working closely with GCC and we are also targeting visitors who came to the Good Food Show last year and our subscribers.

Pippa

I hate to come across like a real moan - I am not.

I'd just like to point out that I am relieved that the event has returned to the city centre and similarly pleased at the good range of exhibitors.

I understand that Highland Park also plan to return next year.

The point I raise about exhibitor costs is simply what was relayed to me.

Food - unles there has been a big improvement on my last visit the food on offer will not be too appealing?

In recent years that available at the Glasgow event has been markedly inferior to your other venues.

Anyways I'm not too interested in food and suspect that you will be stuck with using what the Thistle is happy to offer - at a premium price.

Regards

GPL

PS - thanks for moving the event!

I'll look out for you on the 12th.

Enjoyed Whisky Live.

Good location and well priced but maybe the date should be moved to either November or March.

The current timing puts it awful close to the Whisky Fringe and the Speyside festival.
